clouds and other yummy things

8-5-03 (excerpt from traveling journal)

im sitting at the cable car watching thick cloud patches roll by. It looks like i could touch them if i stood, tip toed, on top of my car. Im watching them hide the moon and moments later unveil it. And as im watching it, the moon, only half full, is sooooo bright. Its really amazing to look at so closely and see that it is not lit by its own power, but ILLUMINATED by the sun. Its only half full because its shadowing ITSELF. Acting as a buffer to its own body.

Its just a bright spot behind a cloud now, not looking like its own entity, but more like a spot light fixed in one place.

Airplanes darting in and out, no doubt experiencing turbulence due to the pockets the clouds must be holding. I prefer a clear sky. That allows me to see the stars, but that is virtually impossible from where im sitting anyway. This sky, blanketed in city lights, drowning out the natural glow. The clouds are moving so fast, discounting the possibility of any long period of rain. Its seems to be done raining anyway. These are not threatening clouds. They are fluffy and clean. They undulate.
